A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Luke 6:45 (NIV)
What is referred to as the heart is the center of physical and spiritual life—the core of man, where his thoughts, feelings, appetites, desires, and passions are.
His understanding, seat of intelligence, will, and character are also part of the heart.
It is the unseen part of the man that controls what is on the outside.
It is the seat of his entire existence.
When Paul talked about “renewing the mind’ in Romans 12, he was referring to just a part of the core of man.
The mind is where information is processed and stored. That’s why you shouldn’t play with your mind; it’s a powerhouse, and it determines how you will live on earth.
Why do you think or feel the way you do? How did you get to where you are? How are you going to get out if you don’t like where you are? Or how do you make progress, if you do?
You have a conscious and subconscious mind.
Your conscious mind handles thoughts and actions within your awareness, while your subconscious mind handles automatic actions.
It is the part of your mind that makes decisions without you having to actively think about them.
It’s different from the conscious mind. It surpasses the thoughts you are having.
It is your storehouse.
You see, what you do over time or regularly becomes a habit, which eventually translates into an unconscious action.
This unconscious action is then moved into the subconscious mind to create space for your conscious mind to create or accept new information.
These are daily habits that you don’t think about, like brushing your teeth, driving your car, or even manipulating your phone.
So we live every day, consciously and unconsciously.
Interestingly, your reactions, decisions, or choices you make every day proceed from information in your subconscious.
That is the real you. Whatever is in your “store house” is the real you, not what’s in your conscious mind.
That’s why if the information you have there is not beneficial, you will keep reinforcing failure, and you will be wondering why. It’s also the same way some have success programmed into their subconscious mind and, as a result, keep reproducing success.
This is why we are told to “guard our hearts,” because that’s where your life is controlled.
You store this information you receive either consciously or unconsciously.
So to change this information in the subconscious, you will have to deliberately meditate on the word of God (Joshua 1:8).
It’s no mystery; it’s whatever is in your storehouse that you will reproduce.
