And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Acts 9:1-5 (KJV)
When Jesus responded to Saul, who was hunting down Christians, He did not ask, “Why are you persecuting my followers?” Instead, He said, “Why are you persecuting me?” This seemingly small but significant difference reveals an important truth that many Christians miss: being united with Christ. This is not just a comforting religious phrase—it is a reality that affects everything about how we live in this world.
It’s the difference between seeing yourself as just someone who follows God and understanding that you’re actually one with Him.
‘He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit’ (1 Corinthians 6:17).”
How would you react if someone made an attempt to poke a finger in your eye? Your whole body will respond instantly—not because your eye asked for help, but because your eye is you.
This is exactly the picture God paints in Zechariah 2:8 when He declares that whoever touches you touches ‘the apple of His eye.’
Your connection to Christ isn’t just symbolic; it is your reality.
This isn’t just about divine protection, though. It’s about your identity.
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Galatians 3:27 (KJV)
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Ephesians 5:29-30 (KJV)
But many believers live as though they’re separated from Christ, trying to reach Him through religious activities, when in reality, we are in Him and He is in us.
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
John 17:21 (KJV)
No Fear…
God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
Ephesians 1:22-23 (NLT)
So instead of waking up to facing your day as a lone soldier trying to be ‘Christian enough,’ you can wake up with this consciousness that you’re one with Christ.
Think about how people behave when they’re connected to someone powerful—like being friends with the president’s child. There’s a natural confidence that comes from that connection. Yet we’re connected to someone far greater—the One who created the universe! This understanding should fundamentally change how we approach challenges.
Take divine protection, for instance. Many turn Isaiah 54:17 (‘No weapon formed against thee shall prosper’) into desperate prayer points, begging God for protection. But the scripture itself calls this your ‘heritage’—it’s not something you beg for; it’s your birthright in the kingdom. You were born in the kingdom, so this is your heritage.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.
Isaiah 54:17
This consciousness also eliminates fear. When you truly understand that you’re one with Christ, you stop seeing yourself as vulnerable and alone. The same Spirit that works in Christ works in you.
Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God;1 Corinthians 6:19 (GNT)
You’re not trying to get God to come and protect you; you’re walking in the reality that you’re already inseparable from Him. You don’t even need to “fight your own battles” or seek revenge.
Wake up to this Reality…
“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
Understanding that you’re one with Christ is about stepping into a reality that transforms how you live.
I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.John 15:5 (AMPC)
When Jesus said, ‘Apart from me, you can do nothing,‘ He wasn’t setting up a religious rule; He was stating a fact about our design. We were created to be one with Him, as inseparable as a body is from its head.
That’s why Saul’s encounter on the Damascus road was so shocking—he discovered that persecuting believers wasn’t just attacking a religious group; it was confronting Christ Himself. This same reality is available to us today.
So tomorrow morning, when you wake up, don’t start your day trying to reach God. Instead, remind yourself of this truth: you are one with Christ.
Let this be the consciousness that shapes your actions, builds your confidence, and defines your identity.
‘As He is, so are we in this world.’ 1 John 4:17
Being a believer has nothing to do with religion; it’s the life of God in a man, the mystery Paul called ‘Christ in you, the hope of glory.’ (Colossians 1:27)
When you grasp this truth, everything changes because you are awakened to who you’ve been all along: “one with Christ“.
